On 22-23 February, 2013, Sariayu Martha Tilaaar with Kartini Magazine held a CSR program in Lasem, a city in Central Java. This collaboration was created based on the same CSR program between two parties, which is to contribute in preservation of Indonesia’s Batik Pesisir. This collaboration was also to give benefits and insights to Lasem community, especially for Batik Lasem handcrafters.

Natural Colour for Batik Lasem was chosen as the theme in order to socialize the usage of natural color for batik. As what Helmi Kurniawan from Clean Batik Initiative has said that the natural color usage will be safer for skin and will abridging to international market. He continued that Europe countries only accepting batik with natural coloring.

Sariayu Martha Tilaar presented two famous Indonesia designers, Dina Midiani and Lenny Agustin. Workshop about batik design and pattern from these designers gave such fresh inspiration from batik handcrafters. “Batik handcrafters should be able to see unique point from an object so they can create some fresh and new creative patterns. Just take a look around, so many objects around us that can be inspiration in creating pattern for batik,” said Dina Midiani, who is the Director of Indonesia Fashion Week.

As the thought of Sariayu Martha Tilaar, this kind of CSR workshop really important so Indonesian traditional culture, especially batik will be sustainable. Sariayu Martha Tilaar also feel so honored and thankful to Lasem for being the inspiration of Sariayu latest colour trend, Sariayu Trend Warna 2013, Lasem Collection, and so Sariayu Martha Tilaar giving this workshop to add more insights for Lasem handcrafters.
