Martha Tilaar Group Establish Partnership to Encourage Women Empowerment
Pioneered on four
pillars which Empowering Women included as one of it, Martha Tilaar Group (MTG)
is always committed in encourage women empowerment in Indonesia. One of its
implementations is establishing collaboration with another Indonesia big
company, Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) Sinarmas. As active member in Indonesia
Global Compact Network, this partnership focus in women empowerment to push
Sustainable Development Goals on 2030.

Martha Tilaar who has just recognized by the UN Global Compact as one of SDG
Pioneers 2018 always put her concerns in empowering women in Indonesia. Not
only recognized for her effors in introducing Indonesia herbal to the world,
utilizing natural resources through Martha Tilaar products, and doing
preservation to aromatic and medicine plants by establishing Kampoeng Djamoe
Organic (Organic Herbal Village), Dr. Martha also put her focus in women
empowerment, so that those women could be more capable in their financial and
social life. As well as MTG, APP through its Desa Makmur Peduli Api program
that has been implemented for these past
2 years, has educated the society arond the forest and give contribution to
forest preservation.
Sharing same vision
in empowering women, both companies agree to collaborate. They plan to empower
and train women who live near the forest to preserve plants and become
independent entrepreneur. Through this partnership, all women alsi will be
trained to identify and proceed valuable local plants. This collaboration also hoped to create
entrepreneurship in the society and become alternative sustainable livelihood
for these women and their family. Until 2020, this program will train and reach
1.000 women including Women Farmer Group in 5 area in Sumatra, Java, and
Borneo.

for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Yohana Yembise through her
representative deputy express her support for this partnership program. “To see
the compexity of women issue, we are expecting our society will support, participate
and involve in any kind of empowerment programs. Â In term of this, we see that our society has
done so many concrete and real action, including what Martha Tilaar has done in
empowering its community. We are so proud that her activities acknowleged with
prestigious recognition by the UN,†as quoted on Yohana’s keynote speech.
