100 Years of Roemah Martha Tilaar

Was built in 1920, Roemah Martha Tilaar (The House of Martha Tilaar) that officially launched as a cultural house in Gombong in 2014, now officially turn 100. To commemorate the golden age of the Roemah Martha Tilaar on December 6, 2020, under the direction of Wulan Tilaar as the Head of Gombong Cultural Heritage Foundation, the management team held some culture-based activity that involved communities and SME around Gombong city.

To enliven 100 years of its existence, Roemah Martha Tilaar held an exhibition that tells the journey of Roemah Martha Tilaar for the past 5 years. “At the opening ceremony, we were inviting the representative of the regent and community fellows who involve in RMT journey all this time. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, we should limit the invitation,” said Alona, the Operational Manager of Roemah Martha Tilaar. Besides the exhibition, Roemah Martha Tilaar also held an online discussion and Jagatan movie screening through Zoom, which can be watched by anyone.

The celebration also held to show gratitude for Roemah Martha Tilaar now has evolved from just a family residence to a cultural house that has so many social functions to the society, especially people in Gombong. Here, various communities from cultural, literacy, SME, to culinary usually gather up to share information and insights related to their field so they could increase their potential. Here, people in Gombong could develop their skills through workshops and training held by Roemah Martha Tilaar and the communities. Roemah Martha Tilaar wants to gain awareness of the importance of remembering history, preserve local culture, and always be the icon that represents Gombong, the city with various acculturation.
