Officially Opened, Ruang Belajar Alex Tilaar to Encourage Literacy of Young Generation

Coinciding with the momentum of Prof. Alex Tilaar birthday on June 16th, 2021, Ruang Belajar Alex Tilaar (Alex Tilaar Learning Centre) has officially opened. Located at Jl. KH. Wahid Hasyim No.27, we interpret RBAT as an effort to conserve the thoughts, ideas, and valuable legacy of the late Alex Tilaar as an educator, which in form of books. Dozens of books were published from his experiences, reflection, idea, commitment and love as a teacher at the primary and secondary education levels, lecturer and professor at university, as well as books he bought when visiting foreign countries or books specially gifted by his colleagues, all collected in RBAT. The collection of books are mostly on education, pedagogy, socio-cultural, history, and politic, and expect to be the source of reading, both for individual and study purpose.

RBAT is expected to be an inclusive space that will inspire and encourage creativity, character building, and literacy improvement towards education for the young generation as part of the efforts to build Indonesia’s future. Moreover, RBAT also has missions to provide board access to a quality source of reading, organize social and cultural programs that are oriented towards education for young people and encourage a climate of collaboration that can support the realization of RBAT’s visions.

“We hope that facilities at RBAT can become the center of education and a place for sharing skills, knowledge, and experiences for the community, as well for the public,” said Wulan Tilaar, as the person in charge at RBAT. She added, “My father, Prof. Alex Tilaar, always reminds us that Indonesia children need to have the opportunity to learn and develops their independence, so I hope all books in RBAT can help anyone who wants to learn independently, add their knowledge, get new ideas and be inspired.”
