Indonesia has great natural wealth, from green forests to a wide expanse of ocean. Even the forest in Indonesia is the third widest forest in the world. Indonesia's forest area is around 99 million hectares, stretching from west to east Indonesia but unfortunately, it has not been utilized optimally.

In line with the vision and mission of Martha Tilaar Group to utilize Indonesia's natural wealth so that it can produce quality products innovated by the nation's children that have economic value, since its inception PT Martina Berto, Tbk - one of the business units of the Martha Tilaar Group, has been committed to utilizing natural wealth native to Indonesia. The innovation and consistency of the cosmetics products are carried out by digging into Indonesia’s local wisdom and serious research about aromatic, cosmetic, and medicine plants, flowers, and fruits, and even by cultivating the development of those plants through Kampoeng Djamoe Organik (KaDO) of Martha Tilaar.

Besides that, PT Martina Berto Tbk and Martha Tilaar Group are also committed to involving the farmers and community in the cultivating and development of native Indonesian plants. “We believe the community empowerment involved in the industry supply chain can be the key to guarantee the success of the company. However, this is also should be supported with counseling, education, and coaching for the farmer community so they could produce good and standardized agricultural products. We want to embrace and empower their potential,” explained Dr. Kilala Tilaar, the CEO and Chairman of Corporate Creative and Innovative Martha Tilaar Group.

Martha Tilaar Group also has Martha Tilaar Innovation Centre (MTIC) which is a center for research, development, creation, and innovation of natural raw materials, products, and services of Martha Tilaar Group. MTIC combines local wisdom and ancestral knowledge as well as Indonesia’s biodiversity sources with the support of science and technology to create innovative products.

Through MTIC as well, PT Martina Berto Tbk is developing and producing natural active ingredients, and extracts that use Indonesia’s natural resources, both for internal needs and for export. This is an effort to reduce dependence on imported raw materials because almost the majority of raw materials used for domestic cosmetic production are imported raw materials.  Meanwhile, to market Indonesian natural ingredients, PT Martina Berto Tbk is partnering with one of the biggest global supply companies, Clariant. This cooperation between PT Martina Berto Tbk and Clariant has been established since 2025. Clariant becomes a partner to market the active cosmetic natural raw materials in the form of plant extracts which produced by PT Martina Berto Tbk to the global market.

On the In-cosmetics Global event held in Paris, France, on April 17, 2024, Clariant has relaunched the natural ingredients for cosmetics active ingredients from Java Island represented by Plantasens Berto from PT Martina Berto Tbk, Papaya Extract, Aloe Extract, Licorice Extract, Mangosteen Extract, Guava Extract, and Combava Extract. All of these extracts are already certified by Cosmos Approved, Halal, and preservative-free Extract Series.

Plantasens Berto Extract is designed to fulfill the needs of cosmetics raw material that is specifically managed using fair trade, traceability, and farmer empowerment principles which promote the increased welfare of the farmers as PT Martina Berto Tbk’s partners. At the same time, the company is also focus on the research and development to answer the main trends in this era, including energy efficiency, renewable raw materials, emission-free mobility, and the preservation of limited resources.

Through this collaboration with Clariant and the launch of New Extract Plantasens Berto at In-cosmetics Global, Dr. Kilala Tilaar and PT Martina Berto Tbk hope that the raw materials originating from Indonesia’s natural resources can be widely known and used by beauty industry players in the global market.
